Brand Identitity

Brand Identity: These are components that are the make up of a band or artist. These can be things such as the style and font or writing, the style of image used or picture framing used. Or possible what or who features in the front cover. Such as some genres such as pop usually features the artist(s), the rock and metal genre may feature the lead artist usually with a guitar or microphone...

Jessie J demonstrates this very well with the very similar connection between here album Who Are You, and the advert for her Tour to Australia. Where the same image is used for the album and the advert. The same font is used for her name and relatively the same size as well. The second Tour advert uses the same style of image of her which a close up. The font is the same as for the album and the first Tour advert. The colour schemes also follow through out with the black and the white with the piercing blue eyes.

Final Digipack

The final choice of digipack to be used was between mine and Gabriella's, using the vote and opinions of the class and our own we chose hers as the digipack to be used. The opinions of the class where very varied such as some liking the bright colours and the collage from my digipack, but some preferred the continuous flow of all the images being in monochrome from Gabi's digipack. Gabi's deeper understanding on how to use Photoshop came through I her creation of an artistic digipack, where as for me this was my first time using Photoshop as it can be seen in my digipack where the final touches aren't as crisp as Gabi's. And the images don't flow as well as hers because she used the monochrome devide making all the images Black and White, which we both believe works very well even though it is going against the Pop digipack conventions. The final digipack follows all the conventions in the Pop genre apart from the colour scheme.

Front Cover: The front follows all the conventions of the Pop genre with the main artist featuring in a mid shot. The artists name features at the bottom of the cover to the right in a font that resembles a girls fancy writing which is something that we both noticed was always used in Taylor Swift's albums. The name of the album also features in the top left hand corner, with the font used to make the name visible to the Audience also the colour red linking back to the name of the Album "Red".

Spine: The spine also follows the conventions of the Pop genre, with the exception of the colour. However the monochrome theme follows allowing for continuation from the front cover, it also used as a link between the front cover and the back cover. The name of the album features in the spine, using the same font only in smaller therefore  not allowing for a continuation error between the front and the spine. The artists name also features using the same font as for the front cover using the fancy girl writing.

Back Cover: The back of this digipack also follows the conventions of the pop genre with the exception of the colour scheme. However the monochrome theme of black and white follows through from the front covert to the spine and to the back cover, making all three unison. The back cover follows all the conventions such as having a bar code, copyright information, record label... The track list is written in a very light red font, with it resembling a fancy girl writing such as for the name of the artist. Making the track list seem like it has been written personally by Taylor Swift. The track list font and colour is effectively used to make a small contrast between the black white image and the light red, making the back cover interesting and captivating without it standing out too much.

Inside Cover:(Right side) The right side of the inside follows all the conventions of the Pop genre with once again the exception of the colour scheme. A personal message has been written to the audience which is a theme commonly used by Taylor Swift and many other female artists. This little touch helps make the album seem personally addressed to its audience

Inside Cover: (Left Side) The image used for this inside cover was taken when taking the pictures for the front and right inside cover. The flowers are the same as those featuring the surrounding of Tuesday. The pink is used to contrast the black and white and brake the continuous colour scheme.

Final Digipack Class Feeback

The class very much liked our final choice of digipack design. The page layout and design fits the genre very well, with the shot types and main images with Tuesday beingthe main center of attention as the conventions of pop genre dictate. They believe that all the fonts fit well with the design and the sizes are correct. The use of language such as in the Copyright is correct and appropriate. The use of photoshop is very well mastered helping to blend and combine all the images together, making the digipack flow. The cropping and resizing has been well done meaning that the pictures do not look distorted. Also the class liked the quote from Taylor Swift on the inside cover.
In conclusion the digipack is a great succes and all approved of its quality.

Digipack Editing Update

This is a quick digipack editing update, so far all is going well with the progress of our digipak creation, after we had some feedback on my first draft, we decided that it would be better to start from scratch, and implement all of the feedback and good ideas.

My Digipack Design

In groups we all had to design our own individual digipack designs, so that once all complete we can choose which one we prefer. The picture above shows my design, which I have tried to keep as simplistic as possible. With the font of all the writing following that of Taylor Swift's Album "Red", the collage of pictures I found on some other pop albums and used the same concept in my digipack as it is a nice idea, with some of the images relating to the video such as the picture used for the inside cover where the CD goes. Also two images in the collage are from the video, therefore linking this album to the video of the song "Red". When making this digipack I followed all of the conventions such as having the record label, bar code, copyright information...
I wanted to expose and advertise the main artist as much as possible therefore I made sure she featured in all of the covers without her seeming too imposing. The images I have used for the front and back cover all follow a common theme of bright colours which means that I am following the Pop digipack conventions.

Digipack Discussion

As a whole class today we sat around a couple of tables to each discuss some preliminary ideas for our digipacks highlighting the pro's and con's and suggested different ideas. We started of by showing the group some of our ideas that we hand drew, then followed by some pictures we had taken.

1. The group beileved that the album title "Red" needs to be in big with a possible 3D effect to create depth and in the colour red with a bold font. The artists name "Taylor Swift" needs to be hand written with a girly style font preferably at the bottom of the digipack.

2. The group liked the idea of a rose, with possibly ading a falling petal or the rose slowly wilting , to link in with the main song of the album where it talks about love falling apart and the rose would be a connotation for this.

3. The front image needs to be a close up rather than a deep mid or long shot, therefore showing the emotions of the artist. But also it creates the effect of making the audience more captivated by the digipack.

From this discussion with the group we have been able to come up with some pictures that could possibly be used for our final idea. These pictures where taken specifically for our album. The idea is to have a close up of Tuesday on the front of the album and a more distant long shot of Tuesday on the beach. With the writing of the track list being in line with the waves.

Inspiration

Taylor Swift: Ours
For the scenes on the sofa and in the garden we took inspiration from Taylor Swift - Ours, which shows a flashback in a similar nature. The footage is sweet and shows how loved up the couple are, which we thought would be a good thing to include and re-enforced the romance between the Ben and Tuesday.

Taylor Swift: Back to December
We took inspiration from Taylor Swift- Back to December, because the lyrics and the video are based around her reminiscing on her past relationship. We thought that this video represented very much what we wanted to have in our video such as when the man Taylor's ex is walking away we tried to duplicate this in our video.

Rudimental: Feel the Love
This song from Rudimental is based around horses, however we didn't take inspiration from any music videos for our horses scenes because we had a clear cut mind on what we wanted. But after we had done some of the editing we looked at a few videos such as Feel the Love. Where the editing is fast paced with lot's of cuts and different camera angles.

We wanted the overall feel of our video to be almost like its for private viewing, and that it's shown through Tuesdays eyes. The romantic feel needed to be eminent but not take over the fact that it is also showing the breakdown of their relationship. The personal feel we were aiming for was much like that of  John Legend - All of Me  where himself and his wife were filming their love for each other. As the audience watching the video, you almost feel uncomfortable watching it because of the romantic the video is.
The sadness of their situation is much like that shown in The Script - Breakeven where he sings about the mess he's in after a breakup. This is what we wanted to portray nearer the end of the song, as the first bits are when they are together.

Even though our video is individual in its own right. Bits of it hint at other songs song that have been very successful, whether they are in the Pop genre or not.
